Scafell Pike for an inexperienced climber
Q. Hi, I have never climbed a mountain and I rarely walk anywhere, however I am considering climbing Scafell Pike for charity. Is this something i can do inexperienced or do i need some kind of training?
Alex Seager, Redditch
A. Scafell Pike is England's highest mountain. Even via the shortest, up and down route - c111 Scafell Pike from Wasdale - it is a 10.00km (6.25ml) walk with 971m (3187ft) of ascent (climbing) along steep and exposed rocky paths.
You will need sturdy walking boots, waterproofs, food and water, map reading skills and a lot of stamina and determination (see What to Wear, What to Take, Navigation Skills for Walkers, Hikers and Ramblers and Contacting the Emergency Services when Walking, Hiking or Rambling
>Given your obvious lack of experience this is not something you should attempt alone (in my humble opinion).
Hope this helps . . .
