Walking/Hiking Answers: Hathersage in the 1940's

Got an answer to the following question?

Hathersage In The 1940s

Hi there,

I am into family history and this time I am embarked on my own.

I was born in 1940 and when aged aged 4/5 went to Hathersage with a neighbour's family and their daughter a little older than me. My flash backs are of a wooden hut in a field, presumable belonging to a farmer. There were other 'huts' and certainly one Gypsy type 'round' and 'coloured' van.

An artist friend of mine thinks the place is still there and indeed still has some huts and a couple of vans on the field..........I have been by bus to Hathersage and walked up The Dale.............but had to turn back for the return journey.

Last week we took the car to Sheffield (we live in Rotherham these days) and up Ringinglow Road and then got out and walked down as far as Overstones Farm.

I reckon we have not yet found the right place...............they say it was nearer to Fiddlers Elbow............as a Walking site........do you have a better idea of where we should be...............any suggestions helpful.

I know I went to see Little John's grave and recall the swimming pool, but they would not have been trudging about with two little girls so I reckon if we start in Hathersage and go up the Dale - further than we did the other week - we might find the place.

Any help appreciated,
