Points of Interest/Notes on this walk:
Dinefwr Castle/Dynevor Castle, the one-time seat of the rulers of Deheubarth, was the stronghold of the 12th-century Welsh leader Lord Rhys. The great circular keep inside the castle was probably built before Edward I gained possession & strengthened the fortifications in 1276. The Castle became a ruin in about 1700 when Newton House was built.
According to Edmund Spenser in his poem 'The Faerie Queene' (1590), Merlin may still be found in his cave on the wooded slopes of Dinefwr.
