The highest point of this walk is Ben Cruachan at 1126m (3696ft). Ben Cruachan is classified as a Munro (No. 31) and a Scottish Marilyn (26th highest in Scotland, 26th highest in the UK). Ben Cruachan is also known as a Murdo (42nd highest in Scotland). Ben Cruachan means 'Conical Hil' and is pronounced 'Ben kroo-achen'.
The summit of Ben Cruachan is marked by an Ordnance Survey Trig Point. Ben Cruachan is used for hydro-electric power production with turbines located in a man-made cavern several hundred metres under the mountainside.
Completing this walk will also take you to the top of Stob Dearg (Taynuilt Peak) at 1104m (3623ft). Stob Dearg (Taynuilt Peak) is known as a Murdo (64th highest in Scotland).
You will also reach the summit of Drochaid Ghlas (Ben Cruachan) at 1009m (3312ft). Drochaid Ghlas (Ben Cruachan) is known as a Murdo (173rd highest in Scotland).
