Melfyn Parry walked up Cefn Gwyntog on July 8th, 2026 [from/via/route] Followed the directions on walk GW120. The route up to Foel Goch was the hardest section, the first section is very steep involving some bracken areas, heather & bilberry bushes. Once on the faint path near the summit the going gets a lot easier. The path to the next summit of Trum y Gwragedd could easily be seen & progress was good, similarly the path to Foel y Geifr was straightforward. From here you descend to the Hirnant Pass which can be easily seen below, if you turn back along the route before dropping down you can avoid the heather & keep to grassy slopes. The second part of the walk is mainly on a forest track with forays off it to get to each summit, the first being Pen y Boncyn Trefeilw. The next peak Stac Rhos was not the easiest to find due to there being several little mounds of similar height, but it is in fact the first one on the right as you approach. From here go diagonally across to the mound on the left & cross over the fence at a boundary stone & follow the fence (left) down through a slightly boggy area. You will see another boundary stone tucked by the fence higher up but don't turn right here, go on a little further until you see a gate on your left & here turn to follow a faint path towards Cefn Gwyntog. There is an area about half way which is full of deep bog pools, no path, this is trial & error but does meet the faint path on the other side to take you to the summit. From the summit you have to retrace your steps back to the gate (mentioned earlier), go over the gate & continue back to the forest track. From here it is straightforward to Foel Cedig & finally Y Groes Fagl. From here you descend to the same track that enters the forest & continues back down to the car park. [with] Solo walk [weather] Dry & very warm day with some welcome breezes. - A quiet day in the hills, only saw 1 walker all day.

Christina Lander climbed it on July 30th, 2024 [from/via/route] Parking area next to the bridge by Foel y Ddinas on the Hirnant Pass - up the grassy ridge to Pen Cerrig Duon - Pen y Boncyn Trefeilw - Stac Rhos - Cefn Gwntog - Foel Cedig - Cyrniau Nod - Y Groes Fagl - through Penllyn Forest back to start [with] Dick [weather] A beautiful, hot sunny day - During our holiday staying at Y Gilfach, Bryn Melyn, Llandderfel
