Melfyn Parry walked up Carnedd Llechwedd-llyfn on March 1st, 2026 [from/via/route] Started walk from lay-by alongside Llyn Celyn, using guide GW104, the walk is a steady climb up a wide forest track, the descent to Nant y Coed stream loses you about 100m of altitude which then has to be regained after crossing. The stream is not the easiest to cross in wet weather. The short walk from the forest track over to Wayne Garnedd y Filiast is a bit boggy which then had to be retraced after reaching the small cairn with a stick at the summit. Carnedd y Filiast is a much more substantial summit with a trig point & views over towards Arenig Fawr looking over Llyn Celyn. The descent to the pile of stones (cairn) alongside the fence is again boggy in parts. On reaching the cairn you need to go left to reach the high ground & there is a small pile of stones marking the summit of Carnedd Llechwedd Llyfn. Retrace your steps back to the fence & turn left dropping down to the bridle path - the route to Arenig Fach continues from here but we turned left to follow the bridle path, yet another boggy area to pass a farm before reaching the main road at Llyn Celyn to return a short distance to the lay/by. [with] With DS [weather] Drizzly at the start, soon persistent heavy rain for a while. Improved just before lunchtime with brief sunny spells & views. Very strong winds at times. - Had the hills to ourselves not a soul in sight
