Kevin Foster climbed Backstone Edge (Dufton Fell) on April 30th, 2018 [from/via/route] Dufton [with] Henry [weather] Sunny with partial cloud (cold breeze at times) - The public bridleway winding around the side of Dufton Pike gave a couple of easy miles of walking at the start of the walk. At the gate in the intake wall I climbed alongside the wall to pick up a faint miners track which wound up the fell side. A final steep pull led to the trig point marking the summit of this fairly flattish fell. The summit cairn marking the highest point was about 200 yards beyond in a north-easterly direction. Sitting just below the trig point out of the wind & with a fantastic 180 degree panorama made for a brilliant lunch stop.
Christine Shepherd bagged Backstone Edge on April 7th, 2017 [from/via/route] Walked from Dufton using walk c419 [with] On my own [weather] Dull but clear enough for good views. - I enjoyed the walk up this fell. Just followed the mine track most of the way, quite eerie though as it was really quiet no birds except for a couple of geese.
