In-use Test:
The fit of the Craghoppers Kiwi Winter trousers was good and pretty true to size. The unlined waist-band is elasticated and the trousers come with their own belt which did tend to stay fastened.
The length was fine on me (I'm 5'10'') and the trousers sat well just on top of my boots. The legs themselves are a sensible width - there is not any surplus material to flap annoyingly.
The material. which has a lovely warm lining, is not at all stretchy. Its thickness did make for some slight restriction in movement compared to really light weight trousers but not overly so. Overall the freedom of movement was good.
There is a good variety of pockets - 2 front handwarmer pockets plus 2 front zipped pockets - all of which are nice and deep though I did find the zips on these to be a little difficult to use with gloved hands. There is also a cargo -style pocket on the front which is large enough to hold an OS map. On the back there are 2 zipped back pockets covered with storm flaps.
The material repelled light rain for a short while but quickly became wet through in heavier showers and then took a while to dry out.
So far they have washed very well and are fine to wear immediately.
Whilst these are too warm for spring or probably for extended periods under water-proof trouser, the Craghoppers Kiwi Winter Trousers will be excellent value if you are planning to do lots of winter walking in cold, dry conditions.

• I have bought several pairs of these now and I love them. One tiny problem I find is that contrary to the review, the handwarmer pockets are not deep enough so any loose change in your pocket you are going to lose unless you remember to put that in the zipper pockets. It is a common problem throughout the craghoppers range and if they just made the pockets a little more generous, then they would be perfect.

• I wore these winter lined trousers early 2009 for a short walk from Whitby to Sandsend & return, approx 6 miles..The temperature was 2deg..the wind chill from the north sea must have been minus something..I really did not feel the cold at all. Cosey, warm, excellant breathability..Would recommend them to anyone.

• I used them in the early part of the year walking in the Hills of Macedonia with snow underfoot and a strong northerly wind they were excellent wind proof and easy to dry but as you say the zips are more fiddly than on say Rohans gear.
