In-use Test:

The material is reasonably light-weight and feels pleasantly soft on the skin. The Geos are designed to be worn around the waist which personally I prefer over a lower cut for dedicated walking trousers. I was wearing a size 12/Long and the fit was good. (I often find standard size 12s slightly big on the hips so if you're more 'shapely' then check this.) There is an elasticated waist which can be worn with a belt to provide a little more flexibility. The freedom of movement was generally good although a little restricted (inevitably) around the zips at the short conversion point.

There are 2 small pockets just under the waist plus a zipped cargo pocket on each leg. I thought the opening of the cargo style pockets was a little narrow and the pockets themselves quite shallow. There's also another zipped pocket on one of the lower legs.

At 5' 7", I was wearing the longer leg length and the trousers sat well over the top of my walking boots. In fact, the bottoms of the trousers are adjustable with a draw cord which was useful when splashing through water or mud. In moderately heavy rain, the water repellancy worked well for about 20 minutes after which the fabric started to wet out. However they did dry quickly.

The conversion to shorts was easy but I did need to take off my boots to remove the lower legs. The zips didn't appear to be very robust but have survived so far.

Buying Advice:

The conversion to shorts is great for warm weather walking but (as is the case with most 'convertibles') the price you pay for this is bulkiness around conversion point when wearing them as full length trousers. However, if you want the extra flexibility of the shorts/trousers combo then these are a good value, starter option for lower level summer walking.
