Odlo says:"The Blackcomb Evolution Warm baselayer shirt for men keeps you warm and sweat free out in the snow whether you're a skier or boarder, and is packed with high-tech features that could make all the difference to your performance. Seamless knitting technology guarantees comfort while active, and a number of clever 'zones', which feature different properties, have been strategically incorporated into the design to optimise ventilation and provide superior moisture management. If you're out in the snow or cold for sustained periods this superior baselayer really comes into its own with its perfect thermal insulation providing a long-lasting barrier to the elements. What's more, no matter how hard you hit the slopes, you don't need to worry about sweat and the odours associated with it as the fabric contains Effect by Odlo - special odour inhibiting fibres woven into the fabric, combined with perfect breathability. The Blackcomb Evolution Warm gives you that snow adventurer look with its camouflage style design, coming in a choice of grey, black or green. It is also partially made from recycled materials, which means you are helping to protect the environment whilst you are out enjoying it."

Features to Note:

In-use Test:

If you have ever worked up a sweat whilst wearing a non-wicking top - like cotton or (for me) merino wool - and felt cold and clammy as the material soaks up the sweat and holds it in the fabric against your skin - then you'll know how important it is to wear a baselayer with effective wicking properties.

The Odlo Blackcomb Evolution Warm Baselayer Shirt for men is a skin tight baselayer that will - the manufacturer suggests - keep you warm when the temperature drops and efficiently wick moisture away from the body.

Beautifully packaged, the Odlo Blackcomb Evolution Warm Baselayer Shirt for men is very stretchy and soft to the touch and finished to a very high quality with all the seams neatly sown and no stray threads.

Swapping it for my usual office T-shirt, I immediately felt much warmer and snug. I usually wear XL and the XL Odlo Blackcomb Evolution Warm Baselayer Shirt for men is skin tight on every part of my torso. There are several areas (back, underarm, back of elbow & knees) where there is knitted mesh - presumably to aid ventilation. The sleeves are plenty long enough to cover my hands and the lower section can be pulled down to well below my crotch.

I did feel that the neck could have been closer fitting - but there is a version from Odlo with a hood that would solve this problem.

At go4awalk.com we always test gear by carrying out on-the-hill tests, in circumstances and in the environment for which the gear is designed. Because we only received an Odlo Blackcomb Evolution Warm Baselayer Shirt for men (along with a pair of Odlo Blackcomb Evolution Warm Baselayer Pants for men) in September - it really isn't cold enough up on the fells to test them properly. With that in mind, I shall update this review early in the new year when I have had a chance to really try it out in colder conditions.

Buying Advice:

First impressions are extremely favourable - soft to the touch, well finished and of high quality. But the proof of the pudding is in the testing! Watch this space.
