New Waterproof Jackets
Q. Hi,
I'm looking to buy a new Waterproof Jacket. After extensive looking on the web and around shops i quite like the paramo Alta II jacket except for one thing the price.
Can anybody recommend a good waterproof suitable for heavy downpours in the Lake District for around £250.
Or tell me if the Alta II is really as good as it sounds and what it's like all year round as some reviews say it's only good for winter.
Thanks
Jamie Magee, Wigan
A. This jacket is as good as they say. I recently went up Cader Idris when the weather deteriorated to 50 mph winds and driving rain on the summit and for the next 4 hours I stayed bone dry. More than I could say about my trousers (now replaced with Paramo)
Incidentally try some of the discount chains such as Go Outdoors where I managed to grab my jacket for just over £160, a mega discount.

A. Well I've got an Alta II and it is definitely every bit as good as it sounds (how does it sound by the way?).
Not sure what you mean when you say "only good for winter" - I have worn mine all year round and frankly wouldn't wear anything else. I just vary my other layers - base layer, (paramo) shirt, fleece - to suit the prevailing temperature.
Definately sold on the Alta II

Also Páramo write . . .
A. The Páramo Alta II jacket fits within your budget at £220.
As with all Páramo Directional Waterproof Jackets, The Alta II will fully protect from the outside and ensure that you remain warm and dry on the inside.
The main benefit that we offer our users is a faster reaction to climate and activity changes than any other brand that we know - and greater comfort. This is because we use a unique fabric system called 'Nikwax Analogy' which pumps away liquid water in the same way that animal fur pushes liquid outwards.
The Alta II benefits from adjustable venting and temperature control through upper arm venting, a two-way reversed zip (and poppered internal storm flap) and easily adjustable cuff design which allows sleeves to be pushed up for cooling.
Depending on whether you run hot or cold will determine whether you choose to wear it year round - but with a host of ventilation features the Alta II is an ideal choice for anyone looking to maintain an ideal comfort level without taking layers on or off.
I hope this helps!
