Volunteer Guides for the National Three Peaks Challenge
Q. Hello everybody, this is a plea for help for guides to volunteer to help with walking the three peaks of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon for a charity fundraiser in August.
Last August my dad, Graham Carmichael, lost his battle with cancer. Whilst he was being treated he spent many days and weeks in the Christie hospital, in Manchester, and when he was fit enough he tried to fundraise to help their very worthwhile cause. We were also helped greatly by Macmillan Cancer Support, upon who we relied to care for dad at home when the cancer became more difficult to cope with, and the St. Ann's Hospice in Heald Green, where he stayed for the last few days of his life.
After his death Gareth and I decided that we would strive to come up with and conquer a challenge which would both make my dad proud, and raise a phenomenal amount of money for charity. As a result, we decided that we would combine our love of exercise and conditioning training with the formidable adventure of climbing the three peaks of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, and the Peak Condition Challenge was born!
We plan to not only climb each peak, but incorporate a gruelling conditioning session into the walk by doing press ups, kettle bell swings and rowing on a Concept2 rowing machine at each mountain. All the money we raise will be shared between the The Christie hospital, Macmillan Cancer Support and St. Ann's Hospice.
As these walks are obviously very challenging, we are asking if anyone would be willing to volunteer as a guide up the requisite peak. The expert help you could provide would aid us greatly, if you would be able to suggest a suitable route and guide us on the tricky paths it would be superb. We plan to undertake our challenge starting at Ben Nevis on the morning of August 2nd, moving on to Scafell Pike on August 3rd and finishing at Snowdon on August 3rd. Please could anyone able and willing to volunteer their time to greatly help us and our cause reply to this message.
Thank you all so much.
Alex Carmichael,
A. Alex, I may be a little late as I have only just read your request but there are two of us that can guide you up all three over the dates in August. We have been up and down all three peaks numerous times over the years in all kinds of weather and will be very happy to assist you on one or all three peaks Regards, Chris Hayward

A. Hi Alex, I did the 3 peaks a few years ago in 22:40 minutes though I didn't get to the top of each peak and do press up or swing a kettle bell like you plan to do! a group of 3 from work decided to do it for the BHF and I did a booklet on our adventure which had routes in etc, but I can send you this as a guide for timings etc? are you looking for one person at each peak or are you looking for someone to come the full way with you? I've been up Scafell Pike a number of times from different routes and Snowdon via Crib Goch and the Pwg track so I could offer some support?
Shane Green, Scarborough
A. For walk route maps up Ben Nevis see Ben Nevis, for walk route maps up Scafell Pike see Scafell Pike and for walk route maps up Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) see Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) .
Hope you send us some photographs of the press ups, kettle bell swings and rowing machine at each mountain top . . .
