They seem very popular and I need some information before I invest? I have only 2 hands and need they both for map reading and GLASSES!!. Do sticks [Walking Poles] get in the way?? A. In the past I'd always been sceptical as to [whether] poles were any use or not, but once while doing some hard walking up in the Lakes in some quite deep snow another walker who already had some suggested I should get a decent set of poles as it would make a big difference. So after checking around I found that Black Diamond made some and decided to buy some. I carry a heavy pack when walking and certainly know its there, but on trying the new poles I was amazed the difference they made. It allowed for a much easier step & removed a lot of weight from the back of my heal. It's certainly allowed for much easier walking and I would recommend them to anybody.

A. I am 56 and have rheumatoid arthritis and have found walking poles enable me to walk further, faster and over rougher ground with no/ minimal pain so I am sure would help anyone who is feeling generally slightly slower or stiffer with age. 2 poles give better balance and speed.

A. Lots of people think walking poles are really useful - see How many Trekking Poles do you use? and Walking and Trekking Poles - Product Reviews
Hope this helps . . .
