Edinburgh To Irvine (Coast To Coast)
Q. I am interested in walking accross the UK and Edinburgh to Irvine seems to be the shortest distance (about 90km). What maps should I get to help work out a suitable walking route, and what waypoint data files would be appropriate to load into the GPS. Also, would it be too cold/ hazardous etc to do this walk in April 2009.

A. I think you'll need the following Landranger maps: 65, 66, 70, 71, 72, and 73 . It shouldn't be too hazardous in April, although you could get short spells of snowy weather. On the other hand, you might get blazing sunshine. Expect temperatures to be around 10°C to 14°C and it'll probably be windy and showery. Just take the right clothing!
