In an effort to get fitter I have taken up walking. I am brand new to it so need to find someone who is patient and willing to teach me map reading, how to use a compass etc!!!!!! I am able to travel and staying away would be absolutely fine. I am able to go on walks both during the week or over weekends. Hope there is someone out there :)

I am a Walker, in my early 50s, based near London.

My Message: Hi. I live in London, but have started walking for the first time outside the South East. I am just beginning to see how beautiful my own country really is. I would like to do a long distance trail such as the Dales Way or the Cumbrian Way, staying in BandBs or youth hostels. I'm generally in good shape, but for me walking is to be enjoyed and views to be savoured, so I don't go in for forced marches or sprints! I would love to have a walking companion to share the views, lunch stops and tea breaks with. I'm OK with a guidebook and map, so if you're experienced with compass etc, so much the better!

I live in Wiltshire which has a wealth of picturesque landscapes and historical monuments but I am also keen to explore further afield within the South West. I am want to improve my fitness (better than all those boring trips to the gym) but nothing too challenging at the moment, i. e no hillwalking or route marches but I love long walks where you can stop and take in the view and maybe include some good food and wine/beer along the way.

My Message: Hi, my name is Sue, I am a young 53 year old, married and live in South Gloucestershire a beautiful part of the country. My other half will walk but only short distances, so I am looking for female/male walkers of a similar age to walk either weekends or school holidays (I work in a school)! My Message: Hi, I live in Derbyshire and I am genuinely looking for a male companion to share all there is to love and enjoy in walking and discovering new experiences. I have loved walking for many years, and has always been my love and a way of keeping fit and healthy. I love walking in any weather and as often as possible. I enjoy both gentle walking, stoping to take in views and breath the fresh air, and longer all day walks which are more challenging.

My Message: Hi I'm a reasonably fit 50+ lady looking for walking companion(s) or a group of walkers in the North East of England. Just to get away from the same old home to work routine that goes on week after week. My partner thinks getting from A to B should be done by the quickest and fastest route possible. (Why walk when you can get there in a rocket!) Have previously done some walking/hiking in North Yorks and Lake District and Northumberland. I am a Walker, in my late 50s, based near Langport.

My Message: Hi, I've just joined go4awalk as I would like to share exploring walking in areas further afield than Somerset, where I live. I am an experienced walker, mostly 4-10 mile walks in areas like the Quantocks and Mendips and enjoy planning and reading maps. My compass skills are minimal but I would like to improve on this as I lead groups of walkers from time to time. Walking in more adventerous areas than Somerset appeals to me now and I'd like to share this with other walkers as my friends are not always able to join me. I have walked in the Atlas Mountains and foothills of the Pyrenees, as well as Scotland and Wales - but not often enough! I work in a local college so it's more often only weekends when I can walk.
My interests include photography, reading (I have an degree in English), people, good food, the environment, the arts and much more. If I'm honest politics (or politicians) bore me stiff, but human rights and the human experience fascinate me.
I enjoy ending a walk with a cream tea or pub, but don't make a habit of either.

My Message: Hi, I really enjoy walking but am generally too enthusiastic for most of my friends. I would like to meet a like minded walker to move me out of my comfort zone and support me to improve my fitness through regular, active walks (preferably involving a hill or two!) My Message: Hi fellow walkers, I am a fit female walker with increasingly more time at weekends to pursue my passion of hill walking and long distance paths now that the kids are independent! I took up walking over 10 years ago when the old knees starting to creak from too much running and love it - rain or shine. I mostly walk on my own, as few of my mates have the time or inclination for a long day. Recently did the 3 Peaks (just under the 24 hours) and enjoyed Snowdon so much I went back the following weekend to do the 'Horseshoe'. South West Coast is a favourite Long Distance Path and I would like to tackle many more. I've been walking for the last 2 years with my local Ramblers group in and around the West Midlands. While I've enjoyed these walks, I want to be more adventurous and try Snowdonia, The Lake District and The South West Coast Path (I'm sure there will be more places I want to walk once I make the transition). I can map read and use a compass and have lead walks for the Ramblers. I prefer walking in Autumn, Winter and Spring as I like the cooler temperatures. Don't mind camping but prefer hostelling (am a YHA Member). I can walk at weekends and during the school holidays.
