Melfyn Parry climbed Arenig Fawr (Moel Yr Eglwys) on July 30th, 2023 [from/via/route] Parked in the small carpark near the Arenig Quarry & walked briefly along the minor road in the direction of Bala, towards Llidiardau. Take the water board track to the dam at Llyn Arenig, cross the stile at the bothy & cross the stream just below the dam. Follow this good path past Carreg Lefain & head on up to Y Castell. The path continues to the summit where you will see a commemorative plaque to the crew of a Flying Fortress that crashed here in 1943. The intention was to continue along the ridge to ascend the South & Far South Top, however the wind strength picked up & heavy rain was forecast so a decision was made to return to the car park down the fence line along the ridge over Craig y Hyrddod joining the track from Amnodd-Bwll (quite boggy at this section), to rejoin the minor road slightly west of the starting point. [with] With 14 members of PRC [weather] Generally a dry day with the odd spot of rain, gusting wind which was very strong at the summit. Visibility was excellent apart from at the summit where there was low cloud. - Stunning views in all directions from just below the summit. Aiming to return to this area soon to bag the other Nuttalls.
