The material feels very soft and the trousers do 'glide' nicely over the skin. I'm 5'7" and usually a 12 and I was wearing the Mammut UK 12/long and found that the fit was very good. They also sit on your waist (as opposed to one's hips) - which I personally prefer in walking trousers. The unlined waist-band, which does have belt-loops, isn't elasticated so there is definitely no room for expansion in that area.
The length was good - the trousers sat on the top of walking boots. However the bottoms aren't adjustable. Despite the fact that the material isn't at all stretchy, I found the range of movement in the knee area was perfectly ok for hill-walking and nordic walking. The fabric repelled rain for only a short while - but did dry very quickly.
There are 4 relatively shallow pockets which are all unzipped - 2 just above each hip and 2 at the back which were just about big enough for a handkerchief or notes but not much else.
Whilst these won't take you scrambling or high mountain walking (where lack of abrasion resistance or ventilation options would be a real drawback), these are certainly a comfortable, very light-weight pair of trousers for more general summer walking. They are also smart enough to wear around town - so if you're looking for good combination walking/leisure trousers, then certainly check these out.
