Which map is best for The West Highland Way?
Q. Hello, my partner and I are walking the West Highland Way at the end of the month. We're planning to get one of the maps which covers the whole route. I've seen several and wondered if anyone had any recommendations? The Footprint one seems to be cheapest but I'll pay more for the Harvey one if it's better.
Thanks!

A. The Ordnance Survey 1:25000 scale maps are the best maps for walking and hiking. The Ordnance Survey used to publish two Outdoor Leisure (yellow covers) 1:25000 scale maps which covered the whole of The West Highland Way. These were - Outdoor Leisure 38 - Ben Nevis & Glen Coe and Outdoor Leisure 39 Loch Lomond. You might get lucky and find them on Ebay or somewhere.
If not, these maps have now been replaced by the Ordnance Survey Explorer 1:25000 scale series (orange covers) and there are now 7 maps that detail the complete route. These are:
- OS Explorer 342 Glasgow
- OS Explorer 347 Loch Lomond South
- OS Explorer 348 The Campsie Fells
- OS Explorer 364 Loch Lomond North
- OS Explorer 377 Loch Etive & Glen Orchy
- OS Explorer 384 Glen Coe & Glen Etive
- OS Explorer 392 Ben Nevis & Fort William
