Walking in Competa, Spain
Q. I am going walking around Competa (Southern Spain, near Nerja). Can anyone advise me on suitable maps please?
Jean Richards, Lytham St. Annes
A. Walk Axarquia is a great book but bear in mind Charles Davis is a veteran walker. Some of the distances and heights are under estimated. Plus you need to be a good navigator. The most detailed map is the one produced by by David Braun and goes with the book Walk Axarqia. Even better if you Use GPS that map is downloadable.

A. Hi, Competa is a great point to start a walking holiday in the Axarquia. The little book Adrian mentioned is useful but is a bit idiosyncratic & difficult to follow in parts. The Walk! Axarquia book by Charles Davis is good.
Sue Kennard, Reading
A. There are several walking books that can be bought in newsagents in Competa.
Perhaps the best is "25 Walks in and Around Competa". It is in English and the walks are of different grades and take you to some of the lovely parts of our area.
