Stepping Stones
Q. Hi all.
I want to find a walk with stepping stones across a river/stream. Odd request I know, but it will make the girlfriend very happy indeed.
Does anyone know where i could go?
Derbyshire or Cotswolds would be ideal?
Anwar Shah, Birmingham
A. Hi Anwar There are stepping stones in Dovedale in the peak district. When you start your walk at the Dovedale car park (Next to the Isaac Walton Hotel) and walk along the river you will get to the stepping stones in about 10 mins. There are about 10 stones and at times they can be underwater but can still be handled with waterproof boots or wet feet :-)

A. The river that runs past Bolton Abbey in the Yorkshire Dales has stepping stones. Not sure of a specific walk, but I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to find one. Bolton Abbey is also worth a look and Skipton is not far away with plenty of accommodation (and pubs).

Indeed there is - and the river you are referring to is the River Wharf. See walk ny147 Wharfedale from Bolton Abbey, Wharfedale
to try them for yourself.

A. Try these:
Stepping Stones near Worsthorne in The South Pennines, Lancashire
Stepping Stones across the River Mole, Surrey
Stepping Stones across the River Swale in The Yorkshire Dales
NB. The Stepping Stones across the River Hamps south west of Felthouse in Staffordshire (Peak District) have been washed away. The footbridge due west of Felthouse though is still intact - see walk s216 Onecote, Grindon and The Manifold Way from Waterhouses
Hope this helps
