Wheelchair Access in Shropshire
Q. Although Shropshire has many walks leaflets I am finding it difficult to find some that would allow one to take someone who is a wheelchair user, but unable to use it independently. I am looking for walks in the county which are wheelchair and pushchair/tricycle accessible with the assistance of a carer/adult, preferably places that have all weather paths which are hard packed.
I have found the Wheelchair User's Guide to Shropshire attractions, but the author is able to navigate his own wheelchair and indicates many places have steep climbs.
Countyryside Access for Disabled People also indicates most trails are suitable only in dry weather and many have steep paths.
Since I shall be pushing a disabled person and have mobility problems with a fused ankle we are looking for something more accessible for the elderly and the young.
Most tourist attractions are limited to a small amount that one can see because they are not set up for the disabled due to age of the site or structure so it is discouraging to pay admittance and not see much.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

A. I am secretary for a small voluntary group of wheelchair users and carers. This year we have worked in conjunction with the county council countryside access team to produce a 24 page guide for accessible walks in and around the county.
This is available from the tourist information centres or by sending an A5 SAE (2 x 1st class stamps) to:
Disabled Holiday Information,
PO Box 186,
Oswestry,

Hope this is of some help.
