Ordnance Survey Map Scales?
Q. I used to be able to buy OS maps at a larger scale than 1:50,000. (1 inch to
1 mile)
The largest scale I can find on the OS Web site is 1:25,000
Can you get larger scales and if so from where.
Thanks
Ian Dampney
A. Not sure what you mean here - but 1:25,000 Scale OS Explorer Maps (orange covers) are 4cm to 1km (2 1/2 inches to 1 mile) and are larger scale than 1:50,000 scale OS Landranger Maps (magenta covers) which are 2cm to 1km (1 1/4 inches to 1 mile).
The Ordnance Survey used to produce a series called Pathfinder Maps (green covers) - but these were 1:25,000 scale and have been replaced by the more comprehensive Explorer Series.
The Ordnance Survey do produce larger scale maps - but these are for town planning and architectural purposes and way too expensive for walking.
See here for more information about which walking maps are available from the Ordnance Survey.
Hope this helps
