Booking Coast to Coast Accommodation with Dogs

Q. My neighbours and I are looking to do the C2C [Wainwright's Coast to Coast] walk with my two dogs.

Is it cheaper to book each place separately (myself) or through a tour operator.

Also, can the walk be done in less that 15 days??

Thanks so much x

A. Update: The current record for running the 185-mile (297km) Wainwright Coast to Coast route is held by Damian Hall, who completed the journey in 39 hours, 18 minutes, and 33 seconds in May, 2021.

During the attempt, Damian Hall faced heavy rain, very boggy underfoot conditions, and sleep deprivation to the point of almost losing the record in the final few miles.

The route crosses three national parks (Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, and North York Moors) with approximately 28,000ft of ascent.

Unless, of course, you know better . . .

A. Not sure about the difference in price between using a tour operator/baggage transfer company to book your overnight stays and reserving each accommodation yourself. If you have the time then doing it yourself gives you a lot of control and flexibility about where you are and when.

Wainwright's Coast to Coast walk from St Bees Head to Robin Hood's Bay can certainly be completed in less than 15 days.

According to Wikipeadia(!):

'In 1991, the route was run in 39 hours 36 minutes and 52 seconds by Mike Hartley, setting a new record, beating the previous record set in 1985 by Mike Cudahy who completed it in 46 hours 49 minutes.'

So I guess it all depends on how fit you are! More realistically - based on experience in our office! 13 days is possible but that assumes several really quite long days (ie > 20 miles)

Hope this helps . . .
